What Is a Book Club and How Does It Work

Do you love books? Are you often looking for people to discuss literature with?  Lots of people love to read, but it can be hard to find someone to discuss the book youre reading — especially if you love an uncommon genre. If youre having a hard time finding people to talk with about your reading material, you might want to consider joining or starting a book club. Theyre also great opportunities to meet new people and make new friends with common interests. What Is a Book Club? A book club is a reading group, usually consisting of a number of people who read and talk about books based on a topic or an agreed-upon reading list. Its common for book clubs to choose a specific book to read and discuss at the same time. Formal book clubs meet on a regular basis at a set location. Most book clubs meet monthly in order to give members time to read the next book. Book clubs can be focused on literary critique or on less academic topics. Some book clubs are focused on a certain genre, such as romance or horror. There are even book clubs dedicated to a particular author or series. Whatever reading material you prefer, if you cant find a book club for it why not think about starting your own?   How to Join Its common for groups of friends who enjoy reading to start book clubs, but if your friends arent the literary type there are other options. You can check your local library or community center to see if they run a book club. Independent bookstores  often run book clubs as well, and they might even offer a discount to members. Websites are also a great place to search for book clubs in your area. Where Do Book Clubs Meet? Clubs started among friends often meet in peoples homes. But if the purpose of your club is to meet new people, its best to meet in public locations like library community rooms or coffee shops. Bookstores are often happy to host book clubs as well.  Remember, if you meet in business (like a coffee shop), its polite to purchase something if you plan on staying for an extended period of time. Choosing Books Deciding what to read in your club can be hard, especially if your club lacks a theme. Many books come with lists of discussion questions at the end, which are perfect for starting conversations. Books can be chosen as a group or by the club leader. Some clubs rotate who chooses the reading material.

In recent years, the issue of homosexuality has been a controversial and frequently discussed topic within the Anglican tradition. The Lambeth conference is an assembly of bishops of the Anglican Communion and is convened by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The conference allows for a collaborative and consultation function which allows for relevant issues to be discussed within the communion (â€Å"Lambeth Conferences†). The argument over homosexuality was discussed predominately as a communion wide issue at the 1998 Lambeth conference, and it was concluded that homosexual practice was â€Å"incompatible with scripture† (â€Å"Lambeth Conferences†). After the revolution Anglicanism in America was in a disarray, some believers fled the country, while others â€Å"were faced with the question of how to give shape to their community of worship under changed circumstances† (Linzey and Kirker 3). Christianity was a religion that grew alongside with America, this allowed the religion to become adjusted to local adaptations, and grow and change along with various civil rights movements. In Africa, Anglicanism first accompanied the British involvement in the Atlantic slave trade (Ward 112). Missionary movements in areas such as Nigeria and Uganda, which have a strong Anglican presence, helped the religion to prosper. Christianity first arrived to Uganda in the 1870’s, during this period the area was under strong Muslim influence and was popular for Arab slave traders (â€Å"African Anglicans†). We calibrated three different molarities of copper (II) nitrate. We tested for the %Transmittance of 1M, 0. 1M, and 0. Fill three different test tubes full, each having different amounts of concentrations of the copper (II) nitrate. By using the spectrometer measure the %Transmittance (%T) for each. Convert each %T into its absorbance by the equation: A(absorbance)=log(100/%T) and plot on a graph. The y-axis should be labeled A and the –axis should be labeled Concn for the concentration of molarity. Draw the best fit line through the graph. Place a penny in a beaker and carefully add HNO3 and occasionally swirl so that the penny can completely dissolve. Once the penny is fully dissolved, fill another test tube with the newly created copper (II) nitrate and again, test for the %Titration and convert it to the A. Plot it on the graph on the best fit line and find the amount of concentration that was found within the new solution. When dissolving the penny with nitric acid make certain to perform it within the hood seeing as the gas that is created is toxic.
